Build Your Archery Skills

The Beginners Course is the next step for new archers who’ve completed a Have a Go session and joined the club. Have a Go introduces barebow shooting; this course builds on that, developing safe, competent technique with a sighted ILF bow — the type of equipment most archers use as they progress. The course runs as three 2-hour sessions on consecutive Saturdays and concludes with a Qualifying Shoot that confirms you’ve reached the standard needed to move past barebow shooting.

Equipment

Most equipment is supplied, including recurve ILF bows and arrows. You’ll need to wear a finger tab (with shelf) and an arm guard — basic ones may be available for free use, but owning your own is recommended. Both are available to purchase through the club or from an archery shop such as Auckland Archery Supplies.

Closed-in shoes (no jandals or sandals), no loose or baggy clothing, hair tied back, a drink bottle, and clothing for the weather (rain jacket, gumboots, sun hat, sunscreen). Sessions run rain or shine, unless conditions are unsafe.
